Architects / Designers / Planners for Social Responsiblity is a 501c3 non-profit organization which currently has four active chapters. It has a twenty-five year history of educating design professionals and the public about critical social and environmental issues. Although established with a disarmament focus, during the last nine years ADPSR has expanded its concerns to include the protection of the natural and built environment, and the promotion of ecologically and socially responsible development.

It offers a National Forum membership to interested persons who do not live near a chapter or who wish to support the national ADPSR agenda. It is also affiliated with ARCPeace International. The Northern California Chapter has historically been one of the most active and is currently the largest.

Berkeley GREEN Map

To encourage community sustainability, we also recently developed The Berkeley GREEN Map, a listing of the eco-resources of the city.

Building Less Waste

NorCal ADPSR has released a report called "Building Less Waste" on reducing resource consumption in the building industry (sponsored by the Alameda County Waste Management Authority). The report is included on the CD version of the Architectural Resource Guide.

Exhibits and Fairs:

In the past year, members have built two exhibits that promote ecological building materials and practices. We continue to attend Earth Day celebrations and other environmental fairs where we display samples of various green building products.

Recent Projects:

Recent projects by national ADPSR include assistance with the United Nation's Habitat II, low-income housing advocacy, citizen participation in regional planning, and evaluation tools for a sustainable society.
