The Green Resource Center opened in Berkeley on Earth Day 1999.
A long held dream of Nor Cal ADPSR the GRC received support from UC
Berkeley, the City of Berkeley, and businesses of an amazing variety.
After providing financial support for almost two years, ADPSR agreed
with the City of Berkeley in September of 2001 to allow the GRC to become
a independent 501c3 non-profit organization. Until the paperwork becomes
official, the GRC will continue to operate as a project of ADPSR. The
new independent GRC will continue to manage special projects for The
City of Berkeley.
The Green Resource Center
- is a central location for information, guidance, and consulting
services on ecological design, appropriate building technologies,
green materials, sustainable community and development.
- hosts a collection of "sustainability and the built environment"
resources. The book and periodical collection includes information
on: alternative and natural construction, healthy home environments,
solar technologies, waste minimization practices, intentional communities,
permaculture and many more.
- houses a growing building materials sample library, including: non-toxic
materials, natural fiber carpet and padding, non-VOC paints, recycled
glass countertops, bamboo flooring, engineered wood products and acoustic
materials.
- sponsors education programs and public outreach on sustainable building
issues.
