Community Education, Columbia College, Sonora, CA Introduction to Strawbale Construction Class This introductory class will include one day of classroom work covering the history of straw bale construction in the US, construction techniques, fire and moisture issues, materials and a virtual tour of straw bale structures. The second day will be a hand-on workshop in which participants actually construct a bale structure and learn wiring and stucco techniques. The class will be taught by Maurice and Joy Bennett, strawbale owner/builders and Executive Directors of the California Straw Building Association (CASBA). The author uses his experience of living in a solar house to inform the reader of the technology and practices needed for the design, operation and maintenance of the solar home.
