Santa Rosa, CA EcoDwelling: A New College of California - North Bay BA and MA Program Concentration EcoDwelling is a 3-semester Concentration offered through New College of California North Bay Campus' (Santa Rosa) Culture, Ecology and Sustainable Community program. New College offers accredited BA completion and MA degrees, with additional concentrations in Ecological Agriculture, Painting in the Landscape, and Consciousness, Healing, and Ecology. The EcoDwelling Concentration is a holistic approach to dwelling in the broadest sense "encompassing the very nature of existence and being" and the entire process by which we inhabit our ecosystems and the planet. It is concerned with the causes of our current dwelling process failure, the principles of success, and the application of principles in the design of equitable, sustainable, universally affordable alternatives. The Concentration provides students with an opportunity to implement vision, theory and design for radically affordable, sustainable means of dwelling, through lecture, discussion, design projects, and hands-on building with cob, strawbales, and other natural materials. The EcoDwelling Concentration is intended for anyone with an interest in any aspect of the dwelling process and its relationship to the whole. It is intended for anyone interested in discovering how to make their own way and means of dwelling more affordable, sustainable and liberating thereby being able to help others do the same. As awareness of our collective crisis increases, the need for those who can recognize, understand, and implement sustainable alternatives will be substantial. The 6th Annual Northern California Solar Home Tour The Northern California Solar Energy Association (NCSEA) is the local chapter of the American Solar Energy Society (ASES) sponsor of the National Solar Buildings Tour held every year in October. Last year, during the National Tour of Solar Homes, more than 75,000 people visited over 600 solar homes in 43 states. Almost a thousand people visited over 20 homes throughout the bay area. These homes represented diverse designs and price ranges, showcasing a variety of building materials and techniques, and demonstrating how renewable energy technologies can be adapted to local climates and architectural styles.
We need to start planning next year's tours: If you know a few willing solar homeowners, we'll help you organize a tour in your neighborhood. If your willing to organize a tour in your neighborhood, but don't know any solar homeowners, we'll try to find some for you. If you are a solar homeowner willing to participate in a tour, we'll try to find a volunteer tour organizer. $2,100 from Miami, Havana, Cuba Sustainable Agriculture and Fair Trade: Finding Sustainable Models in Agriculture and Trade for People and the Planet Cuba has been selected for special recognition by the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) because of the extraordinary progress it has made during the last decade in creating model programs in sustainable development. In 1999 the Cuban Association of Organic Agriculture received the alternative Nobel Prize known as the “Right Livelihood” Award for its comprehensive conversion from chemical to organic agriculture. The delegation is a unique opportunity to gain an understanding of Cuba’s environmental policies and programs; the significance of the Cuban model to other countries of the developing world; and how professionals from the developed world can work together with their Cuban counterparts to promote sustainability world wide. … Additionally, the delegation will examine the issue of fair trade and international markets for organic products. Cuban organic sugar, chocolate and coffee (also shade grown) will be topics of discussion and site visits. Articles on Sustainable Development in Cuba Global Exchange is a non-profit research, education, and action center dedicated to promoting people-to-people ties around the world. Since our founding in 1988, we have been striving to increase global awareness among the US public while building international partnerships around the world. Global Exchange has been involved in sustainable development projects in Cuba for many years. We have been continually impressed, as have participants on the many previous delegations, with Cuba’s unique and ever broadening approach to meeting its food, medicine, and energy needs in an integrated and sustainable way. More about Global Exchange: http://www.globalexchange.org Eco Cuba Exchange is a program within the Cuba Department of Global Exchange. We work to develop cooperative relationships, shared learning and friendly ties among scientists, professionals, students and organizations in the US and in Cuba who have a common interest in environmental protection and in sustainable human and resource development. This is seen as but one of many strategies to not only normalize relations between our two countries, but also to promote cooperation in solving problems common to all of humanity and to the planet. We invite you to become involved in current and future interchange with our Cuban ecological counterparts through our Eco Cuba Exchange program. We promote exchanges with the large community of specialists in Cuba who are developing policies, strategies and projects in sustainable development. The possibility exists for long term U.S.- Cuba exchanges of great depth and breadth in these fields, and for the promotion of peaceful, productive and important exchange between our peoples. We welcome you to join us in this effort.
