Get Steamed About Industrial Energy Waste

According to the Council of Industrial Boiler Owners, two-thirds of all the fuel burned by U.S. industrial companies is used to generate steam at a cost of about $21 billion a year (1995 dollars). Unfortunately, companies often overlook their steam systems as a powerful opportunity for making efficiency improvements. That is why the Alliance and the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Industrial Technologies have teamed up to launch Steam Challenge: a new voluntary technical assistance program to raise awareness of the economic, energy-saving, and environmental benefits of steam efficiency.
